Lights dim and everyone stands expectantly. The music begins to swell into a familiar song of praise and the congregation’s voices climb to meet the melody. Sweet sounding phrases of God’s love and faithfulness rise and fall and every promise sung begins to lift the prior week’s baggage. With eyes closed and hands raised, we are standing on Holy Ground and our hearts bow in worship.

It’s Sunday.

Today we rest from the rat race and repose. We place our stormy troubles in the light of the Son as we are invited to be still and know, just know that God is the “I am”…He is who He has always been within the context of timelessness and eternity. And this awesome knowledge makes us acutely aware of the infinite smallness of our greatest problems. The chorus of one song, reminds us:

Jesus at the center of it all
Jesus at the center of it all
From beginning to the end
It will always be, it’s always been You
Jesus, Jesus

As I reflect and adore, I imagine all the reflective moments being had among us in this instant as Jesus increases and we decrease; thoughts of hopeless situations, numerous needs, great losses. And within the quiet enclosures of each heart and mind, as pains and questions stretch out towards the hem of Jesus, there is this sacred, healing, peaceful moment of worship in community; sublimely sacred. Later on, the Pastor reminds us that worship breeds trust. As we trust, we can rest.

Worship. Trust. Rest.

Thank you, Lord, that all of our earthly toiling ceases when we lift our hearts toward heaven in complete awe of You.

“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”
