Faith and Shadows – Poem

An introductory poem to the site:

I survive each day dodging the jagged edge
 of a sickle.

Some days it tears into me, but
this is what I tell it:

Tear at me. Tear into me.

You will only tear out a praise.

Pierce me. Pierce deeply.

I know One who was pierced, and His wounds swallowed you alive.

Peer at me from behind shadows, whisper darkness into me.

But remember, the candle lit within me–however small its flame–

exposes you for who

you  are, and

you are fear,

you are death,

you are pain.

But you implode by your own devices as I speak

Praises, Celebrations, Gratitudes of the heart, all aimed upward, flowing inward and

overwhelming me anew with Love and Hope and, alas…an impermeable

and resilient
